Consultations

Parents and individuals who are unsure whether an evaluation is needed are encouraged to set up a consultation. A consultation consists of discussing the current concerns and development and offering different routes to receiving the information and answers that are needed. In some cases a classroom observation is needed or an evaluation may be recommended, while in other cases recommendations for home based strategies or referrals to other specialists will be provided.

Psycho-educational Evaluations

I evaluate children, teens, and college students to assess areas such as cognitive ability, academic achievement, social-emotional concerns, and attention. Each evaluation begins with a parent intake appointment so that I can better understand the situation and concerns. With this information each evaluation is individually tailored to suit the needs of the client and referral questions. Evaluations conclude with a written report and a feedback session to review results and recommendations.

College or post-grad students pursue evaluations either after having previously been diagnosed with a learning or attention issue as a child or after encountering new challenges associated with handling a full academic load in college. An evaluation is typically the first step in requesting classroom accommodations or standardized testing accommodations.

Independent Educational Evaluations

I conduct a number of IEEs for families who wish to seek an outside assessment after their child has been evaluated by their school district. A family can request an IEE from their district if they are not satisfied with the recent evaluation conducted by the school district. Parents have the right to request and select the clinical of their choice who they would like to carry out the evaluation. Please note that a student can not be assessed using the same measures within a one year time period due to validity concerns. However, I will carefully review the previous assessment and select other measures that will yield valid information. For more information about an IEE please visit http://www.disabilityrightsca.org/pubs/547601.htm

Testing for School Admissions

I often evaluate children for school admissions and can administer the WPPSI-IV (Spanish or English versions), WISC-V, WAIS-IV IQ measures. Depending on the unique needs of the school and the family, scores can be reported in list form with behavioral observations or in an interpretive report along with a parent consultation to verbally explain the results.
